THE MOMENTLOG FIELD GUIDE
What to Say in a Video Message to Your Future Self
Tell your future self what you expect to happen, one detail you might forget, and one question you want answered. Pick a day to watch the recording again while that question still means something to you.
Pick the day you want to look back from
Imagine watching the clip after a specific event: your first week at a new job, the end of a class, or the day you move out. Say which day it is now and what you still do not know. That uncertainty is often the part you forget once you know the ending.
Try a three-sentence message
Tell your future self what you expect, what today actually feels like, and one question you want answered. Include a sound or object you can point to right now.
Example entry
“It’s the night before my first shift. I’ve packed my lunch twice because I can’t think of anything else to do. When you play this back on Friday, tell me who you ate with.”
Give yourself a reason to replay it
Save the entry, then put a reminder for Friday in your calendar. When you watch it, record a short answer before you move on. Keeping the two recordings gives you both sides of the conversation without having to predict what the week will mean.
