THE MOMENTLOG FIELD GUIDE
How to Talk Through Your Feelings in a Video Diary
When a feeling is hard to put into writing, try recording what happened just before it. Say what you noticed, pause if you need to, and leave the entry unfinished if that feels right. A personal video diary keeps those pauses and changes in your voice alongside your words.
Start with the moment before the feeling
If “How am I feeling?” leaves you staring at the camera, start ten seconds earlier. Where were you? What did someone say? You can describe the moment before you have a name for the feeling. Choose a personal project in MomentLog if the entry is for you alone.
Say the two things that seem to disagree
“When my sister said she got the job, I cheered. After we hung up I sat in the car a little longer. I’m proud of her, and I’ll miss having her across the street.” A written note might simply say “good news.” On video you can keep the smile, the pause, and the second thought in the same entry.
Leave the ending open
Try closing with “The part I still don’t have words for is …” You can stop there. If you come back to the recording later, listen for a detail you had forgotten. You can add a new entry if your feelings have changed and keep both versions of that day.
